A Staff Nurse or a sister, under general direction will manage and direct nursing activities, policies and co-ordinate care planning, along with other disciplines.
A lead playing role in the NHS especially on the wards, is a Staff Nurse, also known as the highest position as a Sister. The main responsibilities are that of, planning, installing and operating a ward, or multiple wards in the hospital. Planning and coordinating care plans for patients, making referrals and acting as a resource for the ward and it's staff.
Being a staff nurse generally involves:
- Direct Patient Care
- Management of Stock for the ward
- Preparation and Utilization of equipment
- Dealing directly with physicians and doctors on patients health
- Monitoring and assessing individual needs
- Taking care of special individual needs
- Administering medication as assigned
- Acting as a resource for medication, medicine knowledge and side effects
- Upkeep of the hospital ward(s)
- Ordering of supplies and utilities
